Farmers Insurance® Donates $50,000 to San Diego First Responders During Special Ceremony
Throughout the 2019 Farmers Insurance Open®, Farmers® celebrated local first responders as part of weeklong disaster recovery efforts

SAN DIEGO, Calif. (April 8, 2019) – Committed to serving others and building stronger communities,  Farmers Insurance® donated $50,000 to the San Diego Fire Rescue Foundation and the San Diego Police Foundation, nonprofit organizations that provide resources, safety programs and other community programs. The contribution is a result of the donation program benefiting first responders that Farmers® implemented at Torrey Pines Golf Course during the most recent Farmers Insurance Open®.

Each time a pro hit a birdie at the tournament’s 14th hole, Farmers donated to the San Diego Fire Rescue and San Diego Police Foundations. Throughout the tournament, Farmers hosted a variety of events, like the donation program on the 14th hole, to honor and recognize first responders for their commitment to helping keep our communities safe. Additional funds to support the San Diego Fire Rescue and San Diego Police Foundations were raised through ticket sales to the Farmers Cares Club, an on-site hospitality venue supported exclusively by Farmers agents, employees, and their guests.

Farmers Insurance, the Century Club of San Diego and local first responders gathered at Station 45 in San Diego on April 8 for a special ceremony and a breakfast sponsored by Operation BBQ Relief, a nonprofit founded by a former Farmers Insurance employee that helps feed displaced residents and emergency personnel after natural disasters. Leesa Eichberger, Head of Brand Marketing at Farmers Insurance, presented a check for $25,000 each to the San Diego Fire Rescue and San Diego Police Foundations.

“At Farmers, a focus of ours is helping our customers and communities after disaster strikes. Without the heroic work of first responders, many communities wouldn’t make it to the recovery phase,” said Eichberger. “We thank them for all they do in communities across the country, and chose the Farmers Insurance Open as a time to spotlight their invaluable efforts.”

Farmers Insurance is proud of their work with the Century Club of San Diego and the impact the Farmers Insurance Open has on the local San Diego community.  “We greatly appreciate the support of our long-time title sponsor in Farmers Insurance, and the opportunity we have to give back to deserving individuals like our first responders,” said Peter Ripa, CEO, Farmers Insurance Open.
