WILMINGTON, Del., Feb. 25, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Contest winners from colleges across the country have been chosen in the 21st Century Insurance College Scholarship contest. The 21 winners met the criteria of not just classroom work, but also their dedication to volunteer and non-profit community work outside of the classroom in their communities, towns and the world.

Twenty of the twenty-one total scholarship recipients received $550 each toward their college expenses. The grand prize winner, Marissa Akery, a senior at the University of Georgia, was awarded $10,000. Akery, who plans to use her winnings toward her upcoming study abroad semester in Spain, serves as a University Ambassador, a Friends for Life mentor and a Girl Scout Troop Leader. Like many of her fellow entrants, Akery believes her volunteer and non-profit contributions are as important to those she serves as they are to her personal growth.
