It might have been a serious impediment to completing this year's football season but Farmers Insurance Group of Companies, working closely with State Senator Gil Cedillo (D-Los Angeles), was able to provide an assist to the Roosevelt Roughriders. Farmers will present a check for $11,500 to Roosevelt High School varsity football coach and administrators to replace the team's football uniforms which were stolen early in the season.

Cedillo, who quarterbacked for the Roughriders while he attended Roosevelt, responded to a call from a desperate coach having discovered the pads, uniforms and other equipment had been taken from a school facility in September. Cedillo worked with a local sporting goods store to get the uniforms replaced in time for the team's next outing and later coordinated with Farmers to cover costs.
As a long time supporter of California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) athletics, Farmers was quick to step in and help. The presentation comes on the eve of CIF Football Championships, to be held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles this weekend. While the Roughriders just missed the championships, members of the team will be attending the games courtesy of Farmers which is also providing tickets to the team for the event.
The presentation will take place: WHAT: Farmers and State Senator Cedillo to Assist Local High School Football Team Replace Stolen Uniforms WHEN: Friday, December 19th, at 10 a.m. WHERE: Roosevelt High School Gymnasium 456 S. Mathews Street Los Angeles, CA 90033 WHO: State Senator Gil Cedillo (D-Los Angeles) Farmers Group, Inc.(R), Assistant Vice President Luisa Acosta Franco
"Back in September, Roosevelt High School was vandalized and robbed of their football uniforms early in the season," noted Luisa Acosta-Franco, Assistant Vice President, Farmers. In keeping with our commitment to local communities, we felt it a privilege to help replace the uniforms and equipment. Working closely with Senator Gil Cedillo, Sport Chalet and several other local businesses Roosevelt was able to continue its football season."
"It's really special that this group came together so quickly to help out the Roughriders. Farmers Insurance and Sport Chalet didn't miss a beat when asked to help. They understood what this meant to the athletes and students of Roosevelt and were right there with a response," offered Cedillo.
