WorldFest-Houston International Film Festival, one of the oldest and largest film & video competitions in the world, awarded Farmers Insurance Companies' Freedom's Song, 100 years of African American struggle and triumph, The Silver Remi Award.
Randy Rice, Director of Education Programs at Farmers Insurance oversees all of Farmers education programs including the most recent program, Freedom's Song. He wrote and co-directed the 2 1/2 hour documentary Freedom's Song, and conducted all of the interviews that appear throughout the ten episodes. Mr. Rice also worked with the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs, School of Education to develop the lesson plans that accompany the Freedom's Song DVD.
With more than 4,500 category entries received from 37 countries in 2007, only 15 percent of the total category entries actually win an award at WorldFest placing first, second or third and winning a Gold, Silver or Bronze Remi respectively. Among the remarkable list of WorldFest past winners are The Coen Brothers, Bryan De Palma, Jonathan Demme, Ang Lee, Spike Lee, George Lucas, David Lynch, Paul Mazursky, Robert Rodriguez, John Sayles, Ridley Scott, Steven Spielberg and Oliver Stone.
Mr. Rice's other credits include developing and editing the curriculum for the elementary school edition of The American Promise: Promoting Citizenship Through Literacy for which he received a commendation from the Mayor of Los Angeles; Writing Walt Disney Concert Hall, The historic story of a triumphant partnership, considered by the Los Angeles Music Center to be the historical document of record for the making of Walt Disney Concert Hall; and writing a fifth grade level text book, A Journey Through The Music Center, now in its third printing.
