WHAT: Thirty-five local students will be awarded cash scholarships
and other prizes for their winning photos depicting Latino
Life in the Rio Grande Valley. Over 250 guests will honor
the Farmers Insurance Young Americanos Photography
Competition winners at a reception following the unveiling of
their winning entries. The winning students will receive
over $6,000 in scholarships.
The winning photographs will be on public display at the
International Museum Art & Science in McAllen beginning
December 14 through March 16, 2003.

WHY: Young Americanos is a multi-faceted program that annually
awards thousands of dollars in scholarships to students.
Young Americanos was developed by Farmers Insurance as an
adjunct program to the Smithsonian Institution's Americanos:
Latino Life in the United States traveling photography
exhibition which was on display at the International Museum
of Art & Science in McAllen earlier this Fall. The Young
Americanos photography competition is being sponsored locally
by Farmers Insurance in partnership with the International
Museum of Art & Science.
